Policies or Standards are usually undermined if the stakeholders affected by them have not provided input to shape their outcome. This may also lead to a reluctance by Senior Management or the CEO to approve a policy or standard. However if approved, regardless of any dissent the people responsible for enforcement or compliance may have to defend or argue about the implementation rather than focusing on more productive aspects of their role in the business.
Spending some time to plan the consultation process and workshop exercise is worthwhile as it should lead to an inclusive, robust discussion. Our Consultants successfully facilitate these exercises frequently and are abreast of the ever-changing legislative and information standards landscape. As they are “external” to a business and its operation they bring an objective view to the table and ensure that the policy or standards implications are understood.
Here is some feedback from some of our customers in the Local Authorities sector –
“I found the two days with the consultant to be excellent, particularly as I was relatively new to Swindon Council. The content of the system was well worded and easy to understand. Being able to go diligently through the policy system and make small changes, tailored to our requirements, was important.”
Glyn Peach – CIO, Swindon BC, UK
“Adapting our approach to deliver one policy incorporating many standards means we will be able to maintain, and update our system more efficiently. This will also enable us to meet our governance and audit requirements whilst keeping a consistent approach”
Brian Olden — Information Services Manager, Bass Coast SC, Victoria, Australia
“The onsite review was helpful in showing us where we had missed a few processes, or hadn’t really fleshed them out fully and so were not capturing all the needed information. For example, getting the user to sign the end user acceptance form and the fact that the new form was more complete”.
Justin Bagust – IT Manager, Timaru DC, New Zealand
